16th October 2016 - Chilli Beach to Musgrave Roadhouse

That night at Chilli Beach was very, very windy so although we had booked 2 nights we decided to move on (Tezza hates wind)!  But we decided as it was Sunday, we would have a leisurely cooked breakfast before moving on.  Our drive back through the rivers and creeks was uneventful and we arrived back on the main "highway" south passing back through Archer River Roadhouse and Coen arriving eventually at Musgrave Roadhouse where we planned to stop for the night.

Billabong with a difference at Musgrave

A large peaceful-looking billabong next to the campsite - look carefully at the numerous eyes watching you!

Jody and Ray arrived just after we had set up camp and I went for a walk with Jody down to the billabong as she wanted to take some photos.  I didn't realise that she was unaware of the local inhabitants hiding just below the surface.  She focused her camera and suddenly jumped, screamed and almost dropped her camera ......."There's a croc in there!"  Musgrave is well-known for its' freshwater crocs but obviously Jody had not heard about them.  Freshies are okay as long as you leave them alone so we went ahead and took our pictures once she realised what they were.  There were dozens of them in the billabong!

Musgrave Roadhouse is a busy stopping place with lots of campers pulling in for the night.  They provide good meals in a jovial atmosphere where everyone joins in the fun.  Their facilities are good and once again, you can camp where you like.  Unfortunately even after all our traveling experience, we did not suss out our campsite carefully enough when we parked the trailer next to a tree for shade.  We opened the trailer only to find that the tent wouldn't fit under a very strong branch so had to move it forward  feeling very stupid.......when selecting a campsite .....look up!!
